San Pedro 4, Dorsey 1--Charles Thompson’s errant throw to third in the bottom of the fifth allowed the go-ahead run Thursday as the Dons lost a Southern Pacific game at San Pedro. Dorsey pitcher William Dillard flirted with a no-hitter until Pirate catcher Gary Sloan hit a solo home run in the fourth.

University 14, Manual Arts 6--Manual Arts’ Paul Gordon hit a two-run home run and Azizi Tharpes added a solo shot, but it wasn’t enough as the Toilers lost to University in a Coastal Conference game Tuesday at Harvard Park.

University did not have trouble scoring off starting pitcher Jesus Rosales, who went the distance despite giving up 14 runs on 17 hits, three walks and one hit batter.

Trailing 7-0 in the second, Manual Arts got on the scoreboard when third baseman Juan Sandoval walked and scored on Gordon’s blast to left field.

With University leading 8-2, Manual Arts’ Joey Villegas singled, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, and scored from second on a throwing error.

Manual Arts scored two unearned runs in the fourth, and scored another run in the sixth in Tharpes’ home run.
