One of the state’s top junior college shooters is expected to sign a letter of intent with the Cal State Northridge basketball team on Wednesday.

Mike Dorsey, a 6-foot-5 1/2 forward from L.A. City College has given Northridge coaches a verbal commitment. City Coach Mike Miller said Monday that Dorsey chose the Matadors over Nevada, Howard, Drake, Southern Utah and Northern Arizona. Dorsey could not be reached for comment.

Dorsey averaged 15 points and 8.5 rebounds a game while shooting slightly better than 66%, making him the second-best marksman among the state’s JC players.

“He’s a complete player,” Miller said. “He can score, he can rebound, he’s smart and he plays hard on both ends of the floor.

“He’ll be the most athletic player on the Northridge team. He’ll give them a presence they don’t have.”

Dorsey is the third player from L.A. City to accept a Division I scholarship. Point guard Raheem Muhammad is committed to UC Irvine and center Marty Cartwright signed with New Mexico in November. Dorsey was the team’s most valuable player.

“He’s the best of the three,” Miller said.

Dorsey’s commitment most likely completes Northridge’s recruiting. The Matadors signed Reseda High point guard Trenton Cross and Thousand Oaks High center Paul Brandt during the November signing period.

Northridge also has commitments from forward Eric Gray from Canada College in Redwood City, Calif., and Washington transfer Sam Allen, a forward who will redshirt next season.
