John Wordin, a former football assistant at El Camino Real High, has been hired at Granada Hills, where he is expected eventually to replace Darryl Stroh.

Stroh, the Highlanders’ co-coach, announced last month that he will resign after the 1994 season. Wordin, 31, will start as an assistant in the fall but might take over Stroh’s duties as defensive coordinator.

Stroh, 55, will remain as the school’s baseball coach. He is believed to be the only coach ever to lead teams to City Section major-division titles in baseball (five) and football (one).

Wordin also is a nationally known amateur cyclist with the Nutra-Fig racing team.

Jim Landress, a two-year starter at quarterback for Granada Hills High, has quit the team to concentrate on baseball.

Landress, who will be a senior, was an All-City 4-A selection in baseball last spring.

Landress started at quarterback for the Highlanders as a sophomore. In 1993, He completed 99 of 197 passes for 1,201 yards and 11 touchdowns. In the spring, Landress, an outfielder who also has played shortstop, batted .443 with 10 doubles, four home runs and 26 runs batted in.

Senior quarterback Brian McLean, Landress’ backup last season, is expected to be the starter.
