GARDEN GROVE LEAGUE : Vaqueros Rush Past Pacifica

Sparked by three touchdowns and 143 yards rushing by tailback Chris Young, Rancho Alamitos rolled to a 42-16 victory over Pacifica Friday night in the Garden Grove League opener for both teams.

The Vaqueros (2-2) scored all six touchdowns on the ground, rushing for 332 yards at Bolsa Grande High.

The game was delayed twice in the fourth quarter by injuries. Rancho Alamitos lineman Jason Bluestein left with thumbs up after suffering a back injury. But Pacifica wide receiver Mike Parsons was carried off on a stretcher with head and neck injuries.

Rancho Alamitos led the entire game, scoring first on Young’s 13-yard run. A 26-yard field goal by Greg Chow cut the lead to 7-3 at the end of the first quarter.

Following a short Pacifica punt, Young gave Rancho Alamitos a 14-3 advantage, running 63 yards for a touchdown.

Rancho Alamitos’ Jeff Turbarg returned an interception 55 yards to the Pacifica three-yard line set up Kevin Allen’s three-yard scoring run. Rancho Alamitos led, 21-3.

Pacifica narrowed the margin to 21-10 when Brian Walker recovered a muffed handoff in the end zone.

Pacifica’s rushing game was led by Tommy Summers, who had 25 carries. His five-yard touchdown run with 6:41 left in the game closed the gap to 28-16.

Vaquero sophomore reserve Leo Kosi quickly made it a rout again with touchdown runs of 43 and 49 yards.
