ROUNDUP : Hammervold’s 5-Spot Leads CLU in Soccer

Jan Hammervold scored five goals, one short of Cal Lutheran’s single-match record, to lead the Kingsmen to a 7-2 victory over Occidental on Saturday in a Southern California Intercollegiate Conference men’s soccer match at Thousand Oaks.

Cal Lutheran (3-8 overall, 3-0 in conference play) outshot the Tigers, 25-8, one day after losing a nonconference match to UC Irvine, 4-0.

The Master’s 3, Hawaii Pacific 0--Bryan Lee gave the Mustangs all the scoring they needed by making a penalty kick in the 20th minute of the nonconference match at Newhall.

Lee later assisted on goals by Mark Ruhlman and Lucas Principe. The Master’s (9-1-1) is ranked 20th in the NAIA. The Sea Warriors fell to 1-5.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Cal Lutheran 2, Occidental 1--Jill Gallegos scored in the final minutes and the Regals handed the Tigers their first defeat, in an SCIAC match at Thousand Oaks.

Gallegos also scored in the first half for Cal Lutheran (8-2, 5-0).

WATER POLO

Agoura 11, Buena 8--Joey Vona had four goals and Noah Bookman three to lead the Chargers, who finished 3-1 in the San Luis Opispo Tournament but did not advance out of pool play.

Agoura, which got 14 goals from Chris Driscoll, nine from Harvey Wilford and 36 saves from Chris Miko in four games, is ranked fifth in Division IV.

CROSS-COUNTRY

Channel Islands Invitational--Francisco Sandoval of Channel Islands won the individual title by 35 seconds to lead the Raiders in the boys’ meet at College Park in Oxnard.

Sandoval timed 15 minutes 4 seconds over the three-mile course.

Amy Van Atta of Buena outran Patricia Gibby of Westlake to win the girls’ title and lead the Bulldogs to victory.

Van Atta timed 18:13 over the three-mile course, with Gibby clocking 18:16.
