Pierce’s 5-Turnover Second Half Leads to 24-16 Compton Victory

Pierce College had hoped to air out its frustrations against Compton on Saturday afternoon. Instead, the Brahmas ended up adding to them.

Five second-half turnovers by Pierce enabled Compton to rally for a 24-16 Western State Conference victory at Compton College.

Despite an erratic offense, Pierce held a 13-0 lead in the third quarter.

That cushion quickly disappeared when Compton (3-0 overall, 2-0 in conference play) converted three turnovers into a 17-13 lead.

Deon Hampton returned Josh Patterson’s fumble six yards for Compton’s first score.

Pierce quarterback David Muir (15 of 27, 147 yards, one touchdown) followed by throwing interceptions on the Brahmas’ next three possessions as the Tartars added another 10 points.

Pierce Coach Bill Norton played Ash McNally at quarterback in the fourth quarter. McNally responded by leading Pierce to a first and goal at the Compton six.

However, the drive stalled and Pierce (0-3, 0-2) had to settle for a 27-yard Russell Gordon field goal and a 17-16 deficit.

Pierce held Compton on its next series. But McNally threw Pierce’s fourth interception of the day to end the drive.

Compton responded with a five-minute, 70-yard drive that resulted in a three-yard touchdown run by Jachon Ramseur.
