COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Foltz Helps Golden West Advance at State Volleyball Tournament

Becca Foltz had a season-high 24 kills as Golden West beat American River in three games in the first round of the State women’s volleyball tournament Friday at DeAnza College in Cupertino.

Golden West (22-2) won 15-7, 15-13, 15-5. Foltz was the most valuable player of the State tournament last season when the Rustlers won the title.

In the Cypress women’s basketball tournament:

Cypress 87, Long Beach 64--Sara Works set a single-game record with 42 points for Cypress (7-2). Works made 19 of 30 shots from the field and four of nine of free throws. The Chargers play Ventura at 4 p.m. today for the tournament title.

In the Cuesta tournament:

Orange Coast 90, Bakersfield 53--America Robledo scored a game-high 20 points and had eight assists to advance Orange Coast (9-1) to the final. Jamie Shine added 17 points and Flo Luppani had 13 assists and scored 12 points. Monica Geraci and Jessica Smillie each added 10 points. The championship game is tonight at 6.

Rancho Santiago 62, Hartnell 47--Lisa Petronis scored 17 points with 12 rebounds and Tanja Tilli scored 16 to pace Rancho Santiago (5-3).

In the Orange Coast men’s basketball tournament:

Long Beach 79, Orange Coast 69--It was the first loss of the season for OCC (5-1), which plays Son of the Blue Angels in the third-place game tonight at 5. Long Beach plays L.A. City at 7 p.m. in the title game.

Irvine Valley 76, Santa Barbara 73--Rashad Wilson and Jeremy Garrett scored 16 points each for Irvine Valley (4-4), which plays Imperial Valley in the consolation final at 3.

In the Golden West tournament:

Glendale 79, Golden West 68--Glendale advanced to the championship game and plays Cerritos at 8 p.m. Golden West plays Riverside at 6 p.m. for third place.

Cypress 83, Mt. San Antonio 81 (2 OT)--Jeff Cummins had 29 points and Matt Kenny added 18 for Cypress (6-2), which plays Concordia JV at 4 p.m. today.
