OUTLOOK

The Heralds could give everyone in the league a tough time this season, including Cerritos Valley Christian, the favorite to win the title. Second-year coach Cronquist returns four starters from last season’s team that finished in a tie for third with Orange Lutheran. Cronquist’s main concern is the defense. “We had a difficult time defending good players last season,” he said. The team also needs to improve its point production from its front-court players. Kempton averaged 17 points to lead the team and was named first-team all-league and second-team All-Southern Section Division IV. Menke controls the team from the point-guard position, where she averaged six assists and was a second-team all-league selection. Younger, who played basketball as a freshman, returns to the team as a senior and brings maturity and quickness to the backcourt. Cronquist plans to play an up-tempo game to offset weakness inside.
