HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS : Newport Harbor Sweeps to Title

Misty May had 21 kills to lead Newport Harbor to a 15-4, 16-14, 15-10 victory over Stockton St. Mary’s in the girls’ volleyball State Division I championship match Saturday at Cal State Fullerton.
May, a 5-9 senior who has orally committed to Long Beach State, also had 10 digs for Newport Harbor (33-1), ranked No. 1 in the nation by polls in USA Today and Volleyball Monthly.
Jen Canevari had 15 kills for St. Mary’s (35-5).
In Division II, Megan O’Brien had 21 kills to lead Mountain View St. Francis (38-3) to its second State title with a 10-15, 15-9, 15-11, 15-11 victory over Huntington Beach (19-4), led by Melissa Wendt with 23 kills.
In Division III, San Jose Archbishop Mitty won its second consecutive title by defeating Bakersfield Centennial, 15-11, 15-8, 15-0.
In Division IV, Santa Ana Calvary Chapel defeated Orinda Miramonte, 15-6, 15-5, 15-2. Courtney Owens had 15 kills for the Eagles (20-4). Miramonte ends 22-5.
In Division V, Brentwood won its second consecutive State title, defeating Oakland College Prep, 15-8, 15-5, 16-14. Erin Hawkins had 10 kills for Brentwood (30-1).
