Basketball/Center

Capistrano Valley Coach Pete Belanto was hoping to win at least two games in the South Coast Holiday Classic, but thanks largely to Garrett, the Cougars won four and the title. Garrett, who averaged 19 points and 16.5 rebounds, dominated the tournament. “She pretty much carried us,” Belanto said. “She was going to be the most valuable player of the tournament even if we didn’t win it.” Garrett, who is 6 feet 3, had nine points and 15 rebounds in a 43-38 victory over Trabuco Hills in the title game. Trabuco Hills limited her offensive output by double-teaming her, but she compensated in other ways. “She still made good passes,” Belanto said. “She rebounded and did other things to help us win.”
