PREP ROUNDUP : Late Goal Gives Mater Dei Victory Over Peninsula

Teresa Buechler scored on an assist from Trisha Steiner with 30 seconds to play to give Mater Dei a 3-2 victory over Palos Verdes Peninsula in a nonleague girls’ soccer game Thursday.

Steiner also scored two first-half goals for the Monarchs (2-2-2), who led 2-1 at halftime.

In other nonleague girls’ soccer:

Aliso Niguel 4, Capistrano Valley Christian 0--Courtney Ward scored two goals, Natasha Radwan and Jenny Spears each scored one goal to lead visiting Aliso Niguel (6-1). Kirsten Roy had three saves for her fourth shutout of the season.

Brea-Olinda 2, Diamond Bar 2--Erin Wright and Jennifer Overholtzer each scored a goal for Brea-Olinda (4-0-3).

Canyon 1, Cypress 0--Genelle Geronsin scored on a cross from Michelle Bannister with less than two minutes to play for Canyon (6-0).

Capistrano Valley 2, Edison 0--Kelly Skeen and Liz Delgado scored for Capistrano Valley (6-2).

Costa Mesa 1, Santa Ana 0--Jessica Schroeder scored a second-half goal to lead Costa Mesa (7-2). The goal was Schroeder’s 14th of the season.

Dana Hills 1, University 0--Alissa Maitino scored the game-winning goal with 20 minutes left in the game to lead host Dana Hills (6-0-2). Sumon Nicole recorded three saves for the Dolphins.

El Modena 3, Fullerton 1--Kaylee Whitfield scored two of El Modena’s three second-half goals.

Esperanza 5, Katella 0--Chris Gehrls recorded her fourth shutout of the season and Kim Gallo scored twice to lead Esperanza (6-1-2).

Irvine 3, Mission Viejo 1--Erin Rummens, Rachel Newhouse and Jennifer Meyerson scored goals for host Irvine (7-0-1). Beth Merckle scored a goal for Mission Viejo (3-3-1).

Laguna Hills 2, Woodbridge 1--Karine Inoue scored the winning goal for Laguna Hills with five minutes left in the game. Melissa Gilbert, with an assist from Stacy Roberts, scored the Hawks’ first goal early in the second half. Laguna Hills is 3-2-2.

Los Alamitos 2, North Torrance 1--Sommer Hammoud scored with four minutes left in the game to lead Los Alamitos (7-0-1).

Ocean View 2, El Toro 1--Kim Engesser scored a goal midway through the second half to lead Ocean View (6-1-0).

Rosary 2, Sonora 1--Laura Fulton and Jenna Gish scored goals for visiting Rosary (4-1-1). Heather Gibson scored a goal for Sonora (6-2-1).

Villa Park 4, El Dorado 1--Lori Sheppard and Claire Greis scored two goals each to lead Villa Park (4-0), which led 2-1 at the half.

Westminster 7, Santiago 0--Stephanie Wilson, Kelly Hauxhurst and Teresa Duong each scored two goals to lead host Westminster (4-1). Rachel Kavan had one goal and recorded one save for Westminster.

In nonleague boys’ soccer:

Anaheim 1, Bellflower St. John Bosco 1--Alvaro Cano scored a late second-half goal to tie the game for Anaheim (0-3-2).

Capistrano Valley Christian 10, St. Margaret’s 0--Matt Davenport and Bryant Wolfsburger scored three goals each and Casey Turner added two to lead host Capistrano Valley Christian (3-3).

Foothill 1, El Toro 0--Chris Fanti scored off a throw-in from Geoff Urland with 10 minutes remaining for host Foothill (4-1-2).

Long Beach Millikan 3, Buena Park 2--Tatsuya Higashi and Byron Loyes scored for Buena Park (4-4-2) and Jason Avila had 16 saves in the loss. Ricardo Nieto had two goals for undefeated Long Beach Millikan (8-0).

Mission Viejo 5, Santa Ana Valley 1--Ron Davis and Shane Lex each scored two goals to lead Mission Viejo (2-0-3).

Orange Lutheran 3, Laguna Beach 2--Patrick Chollet-Guibert, off an assist by Erik Vander Zilver, scored the winning goal for Orange Lutheran (7-0-1) midway in the second half. Brad Hoover and Jeff Mangels scored the other two goals for the Lancers.

In nonleague wrestling:

Cypress 44, Long Beach Poly 30--Heavyweight David Wheeler recorded a pin in 37 seconds for visiting Cypress (6-5-1).
