ROUNDUP : Tampus’ Shot at the Buzzer Lifts Canyons

Steve Tampus made a three-point shot at the buzzer to give College of the Canyons a 70-69 victory over El Camino in the first round of the Cypress tournament on Thursday.

Canyons (4-6) trailed by 11 at halftime but Mars Crain scored 16 of his 19 points during the second half.

Valley 77, Fullerton 76--Valley held off a late Fullerton surge to win the first-round Crown City tournament game.

Vernon Simmons had 16 points and 10 rebounds, Ricky Steele had 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Lamarr Thompson added 15 points for Valley (10-3).

Antelope Valley 95, Contra Costa 88--Orville Turner had 28 points and 12 rebounds to lead Antelope Valley to a first-round victory in the Sequoias tournament. Brandon McIntire added 20 points.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Crescenta Valley 102, Blair 46--The Falcons, ranked No. 1 in the Times’ regional poll, improved to 8-0 in the final round of pool play of the Crescenta Valley tournament.

Brock Jacobsen led the way with 33 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists, and Nate Sinning added 30 points. Blake Jacobson had 10 points, and Jake Willis had 17 assists to go with five points.

Poly 65, San Gabriel 55--Polo Gonzalez scored 20 points and Jaime Cerna added 17 for the Parrots in Crescenta Valley tournament pool play.

Bellflower 66, Quartz Hill 63--Aaron Brown had 22 points and Matt Pettis added 18 for the Rebels in Crescenta Valley tournament pool play.

Franklin 51, Reseda 48--The Regents trailed by 14 points at halftime, but their comeback fell just short in Crescenta Valley tournament pool play. Akua Floyd led Reseda with 13 points.

Harvard-Westlake 70, El Rancho 50--The Wolverines put the first-round La Canada tournament game away in the third quarter by outscoring El Rancho, 23-2, to take a 33-point lead.

Jason Collins had 22 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocked shots for Harvard-Westlake (6-0).

Alemany 76, Pacifica 66--Alemany used a 24-5 second-quarter run to knock off the defending Southern Section Division 3-A champions in a first-round La Canada tournament game. Adrian Pantoja led the Indians (3-4) with 19 points, while Kris Kuhn added 17 points and eight rebounds.

Kennedy 62, University 40--The Golden Cougars (4-1) scored 28 points in the third quarter of the second-round Hamilton tournament game. Nakia Gordon finished with 18 points and Jelani Janisse added 14.

Canyon 55, Atascadero 34--Greg Minor scored 15 points for the Cowboys (3-3) in a first-round game of the Arroyo Grande tournament.

Grant 73, El Camino Real 55--Grant (5-3) outscored the Conqistadores, 24-14, in the second quarter and 20-15 in the third quarter of a North Hollywood tournament consolation bracket game.

Twins Ronald and Donald Patterson led the Lancers with 24 points each. Jermel Jones scored 18 for El Camino Real (1-7).

Taft 82, Narbonne 67--Senior forward Alton Arrington scored a career-high 23 points and added 10 rebounds to lead host Taft (4-3) in a nonleague game. Colin Jamerson and Ricky James each scored 16 points for Taft, which broke a tie with a 28-14 run in the third quarter.

Van Nuys 74, Marshall 64--Jon Okui and Kenneth Nakata provided 15 and 13 points, and Ricardo Hernandez added seven assists for Van Nuys in a Hamilton tournament game.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Holy Martyrs 57, Mayfield 41--Annie Mahroukian scored 16 points and had seven assists to lead Holy Martyrs (4-2) to the consolation championship of the Marlborough tournament.

Westlake 54, Royal 30--Forward Megan Carmola scored 23 points to lead host Westlake (4-2, 2-0 in league play) in a Marmonte league victory. Katie Spayde added 16 points.

Thousand Oaks 54, Channel Islands 38--Nicki LaSala had 14 points and Nicole Woodruff added 13 off of the bench to lead Thousand Oaks (3-3, 1-1) in a Marmonte League game at Channel Islands. Judy Tuimoloau led the Raiders (1-1 in league play) with 12 points.

HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING

City Section meet: Jose Barahona of Canoga Park High, two-time defending City champion at 119 and 130 pounds, placed first at 140 to lead Canoga Park to a first-place finish in a five-way dual meet at Granada Hills.

Barahona went 4-0 in the competition. Teammate Hadi Jubrail, City champion at 160 last season, placed first at 171.

Canoga Park went 4-0, followed by Granada Hills (3-1), Monroe (2-2), Birmingham (0-3-1) and Chatsworth (0-3-1) .
