JILL BUTTS

Setter

Edison, Sr.

Butts was named Sunset League Most Valuable Player after leading the Chargers to a banner season. At 5-10, Butts is an aggressive setter with deft defensive skills. She has orally committed to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

JENNY KESSY

Outside hitter

Dana Hills, Sr.

Kessy, the South Coast League Most Valuable Player, helped the Dolphins win their second consecutive league title. Kessy is a dangerous attacker from anywhere on the court. She has orally committed to USC.

MISTY MAY

Outside hitter

Newport Harbor, Sr.

May is one of the county’s most coveted players ever. She played outside hitter for the Sailors, who won the school’s first Division I State title, but will probably set in college. She has orally committed to Long Beach State.

COURTNEY OWENS

Outside hitter

Calvary Chapel, Sr.

Although playing at a small school, Owens received major attention from recruiters. A dynamic hitter who led the Eagles to their first State girls’ volleyball championship, she has orally committed to Colorado.

MELISSA SCHUTZ

Middle blocker

Newport Harbor, Sr.

Sailor Coach Dan Glenn called Schutz the best middle attacker he has coached. Schutz was named co-MVP of the Sea View League with May. Both were four-year starters. Schutz has orally committed to Colorado.

MELISSA WENDT

Outside hitter

Huntington Beach, Jr.

At 6-2, Wendt was one of Orange County’s best offensive players, and one of the few who could carry a team through portions of a match. She helped Huntington Beach finish the best season in school history.

DAVE MOHS

Coach of the year

Edison

In his 12th and final year, Mohs led Edison to the most successful season in school history. Edison won the Sunset League--one of the county’s toughest--and advanced to the section semifinals and State quarters.

Middle blocker / Helped Oilers reach their first State final.

Lisa Ravensberg, Laguna Beach, Sr.

Middle blocker / Named Pacific Coast co-MVP with Collison.
