The Collins twins of Harvard-Westlake High continue to dominate in more ways than one.

And the Wolverines continue to win by a whole bunch.

Harvard (9-0), ranked second in the state Division III poll, went about business as usual on Tuesday night, rolling to an 80-50 victory over Alemany in the championship game of the La Canada tournament.

Six-foot-10 sophomore center Jason Collins, who was voted the tournament’s most valuable player, scored 16 points and blocked seven shots.

Jarron Collins, also an all-tournament selection, finished with a game-high 23 points to outscore his brother for the first time this season. He also recorded three blocks.

Both twins had 12 rebounds and a seat on the bench early in the fourth quarter.

“Sometimes it’s hard to keep up the intensity, winning like this,” Jarron said. “But we’ve played some good teams and we’ve needed the intensity. We’ve just shut them down.”

Senior guard Ben Robbins, who scored 20 points, including six three-pointers, also was selected all-tournament.

The Wolverines, ranked second to Crescenta Valley in The Times’ regional poll, hardly broke a sweat in the tournament, winning four games by an average of 28 points.

“I hope we keep winning like this,” a jubilant Harvard Coach Greg Hilliard said. “It makes it easy on the coach. But our guys are just waiting to get into league when it really counts.”

Harvard sprinted to a 15-0 lead and held Alemany scoreless for nearly nine minutes. Each of the Collins had scored six points before the Indians scored.

For its part, Alemany (6-4), hardly expected to reach the final, did a good job of making it look close. With the help of a 12-2 run, the Indians pulled to within 22-14 at the end of the first quarter.

But the outcome was never really in question.

“They’re definitely tough,” Alemany Coach Robert Webb said of the Wolverines. “But I wouldn’t trade my 13 guys for anyone in the gym. They don’t back down to anybody.”

Junior forward Adrian Pantoja led the Indians with 20 points.
