BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Troy, Torres Work Overtime to Defeat Compton Centennial

Jon Torres made eight free throws in overtime to help Troy to a 73-63 victory over Compton Centennial in the first round of the Brea Olinda tournament Monday at Brea.
Torres made a three-point basket to tie score with 10 seconds left in regulation. He finished with 16 points and eight assists for Troy (7-5). Jeff Sand added 24 points for the Warriors.
Paul Sykes has 23 points to lead Centennial.
In other Brea Olinda tournament games:
La Habra 87, La Canada St. Francis 65--Justin Marshall made seven three-pointers in the victory for La Habra (6-5). Teammates Dan Ploog and Corey Holbert each added 18.
Brea Olinda 72, Rancho Alamitos 60--Matt Bodiford scored 17 points and Shawn Collier scored 15 for Brea Olinda (9-3). The Wildcats play Norwalk Wednesday.
In the Reebok Above the Rim tournament in Encinitas:
Mater Dei 75, San Diego Scripps Ranch 63--Schea Cotton had 23 points and 12 rebounds and Clay McKnight had 21 points, including five three-pointers for Mater Dei, top-ranked in Orange County.
After leading, 32-31, at halftime, the Monarchs (12-1) outscored Scripps Ranch, 22-12, in the third quarter to take command. Scott Charity had 27 points for Scripps Ranch (10-1).
Mater Dei plays Anchorage Service at 6 p.m. tonight.
Ocean View 62, Bonanza (Nevada) 59--Dan McDonald scored 29 points and had nine rebounds for Ocean View (7-5). Erik Petersen had 13 points for the Seahawks, who played a first-round game Monday morning.
Ocean View also played Monday night and lost to Riverside North, 64-56. McDonald scored a game-high 22 points and seven rebounds.
Encinitas San Dieguito 70, Newport Harbor 60--Will Ranking scored 15 points for Newport Harbor in first-round action. San Dieguito’s Pat Conahan was the high-scorer with 26 points.
In the Canyon tournament:
Cerritos 76, Saddleback 50--Nick Maddox 41 points and made 13 of 13 free throws to lead Cerritos to the victory in the first-round game.
Bobby Dreyer had 13 points for Saddleback (2-9), which plays Magnolia in a consolation game today at 4:40 p.m. Cerritos plays El Dorado Wednesday at 3 p.m.
El Dorado 71, Magnolia 41--Dan Simonsen had 16 points and Dustin Miller added 15 for El Dorado (9-2), which outscored Magnolia, 34-18, in the first half. Ahmad Shurdim had 14 points for Magnolia (6-6).
Bolsa Grande 44, Fullerton 39--Dihn Tan scored 13 points and Jeff Park had 10 rebounds for Bolsa Grande (5-4) in a first round game. Park also had 11 points. Sam Mackiewicz had 11 rebounds for Fullerton (8-4).
Bolsa Grande plays Canyon in the next round.
Canyon 63, Cerritos Whitney 58--Ryan Walker scored 26 points in a first-round game for Canyon (5-7).
In the Century tournament:
Garden Grove 57, Buena Park 45--Mike Campuzano and Dave Williams each scored 17 points for Garden Grove in a first-round game. Mike Moran scored 15 points for Buena Park.
Sunny Hills 68, Santiago 54--Rafael Robledo scored 29 points for Santiago, which led at the half, 28-26. Sunny Hills outscored Santiago, 21-10, in the third quarter to take control of the game.
Century 63, Anaheim 40--Jose Bugarian scored a game-high 18 points in Century’s victory. Freshman forward Terrail Zoller added eight points and 10 rebounds for the Centurions (8-4). Century plays Sunny Hills Wednesday afternoon.
Cypress 70, Brethren Christian 46--Chad Boberg scored 17 points and Brett Bolton scored 16 points for Cypress (10-2) in the first round.
The Centurions play Garden Grove on Wednesday.
In the Daily Pilot Coast Classic:
Irvine 63, Long Beach Jordan 62--Darrell Parker had 24 points and Jermaine Hill had 12, including the game-winner for Irvine (5-7), who will play Antioch Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. Ortege Jenkins had 30 points for Long Beach Jordan. They will play San Francisco Antioch today at 5:50 p.m.
Edison 74, Glendale Hoover 54--Josh Lightman had 27 points and Mike Ogas had 16 for Edison (6-6), who will play Thousand Oaks Wednesday at 5:15 p.m. Arbi Baghdasarian had 17 points and Danny Clarke had 15 for Hoover. They will play Thousand Oaks today at 2:30 p.m.
Rialto 71, Corona del Mar 63--J.M. Anderson had 15 points and Jarrod Jefferson had 12 for Rialto. Brian Fiacalosy had 15 to lead Corona del Mar (7-4).
Dana Hills 70, Bakersfield Stockdale 63--Jeff Barnett had 25 points and Donald Myers had 24 for Dana Hills (5-4). Scott Fergeson had 12 points for Stockdale.
In the Reno Classic tournament:
Carson City (Nevada) 72, Woodbridge 65 (OT)--Chris Burgess scored 21 points and had 13 rebounds in only three quarters of play. Burgess sat out the second quarter with a neck injury before scoring 16 second half points. Teammate Brian Quinn added 13 points. Woodbridge (9-3) plays Seattle Shorecrest at 3:30 Tuesday.
In the Eagle Rock tournament:
L.A. Roosevelt 78, St. Margaret’s 61--Kris Scubla scored 14 points and had 11 rebounds in a first-round game for St. Margaret’s (6-2). Bobby Baker led the Tartans with 15 points.
