BOYS’ SOCCER ROUNDUP : Los Alamitos Beats Laguna Hills; Santa Margarita Next
Mike Lalond, Jeff Leitner and Toren Wallace scored for Los Alamitos in a 3-0 victory over Laguna Hills in a first-round game in the Orange Holiday boys’ soccer tournament Tuesday at Orange.
The Griffins (7-0-3), ranked fourth in Orange County, play top-ranked Santa Margarita at 12:30 today at Rancho Santiago College.
In other tournament games:
Santa Margarita 4, Katella 0--Seth George scored two goals to lead Santa Margarita (10-0-1).
La Habra 1, Estancia 1 (La Habra advances on penalty kicks)--Miguel Zelia scored a goal with less than a minute left to play to tie the score for Estancia (3-2-2). La Habra advances to the second round, winning 3-1 on penalty kicks.
The Highlanders (4-0-2) play Orange at 10:45 a.m. today at Rancho Santiago.
Orange 1, Trabuco Hills 1 (Orange advances on penalty kicks)--Victor Diaz scored a goal with five minutes left in the game for Orange, which then won on penalty kicks, 4-2.
Riverside North 1, Foothill 1 (North advances on penalty kicks)--Adam Campbell scored Foothill’s only goal. North won on penalty kicks, 3-2. The Knights (4-2-3) play Sonora at 11:30 a.m. today at Orange.
Santa Ana 1, Sonora 0--Juan Bolanos scored a first-half goal to lead Santa Ana (4-2-1). The Saints play Riverside North at 3 p.m. at Orange.
Edison 4, Sunny Hills 2--Todd Marcus scored two goals for Edison (5-1-4). The Chargers play Saddleback at 9 a.m. at Rancho Santiago.
Saddleback 2, West Torrance 1--Carlos Vizcaino and Ramon Alvarado each scored goals for Saddleback.
In the Marina tournament:
Newport Harbor 2, Los Angeles Ayala 1--Steve Kleha had 14 saves and Chris Wakim and Dom Fratantaro scored for Newport Harbor (8-2).
Fountain Valley 3, El Toro 0--Joey Vasquez had two goals and Scott Hainlen made four saves for second-ranked Fountain Valley (8-1), which will play Long Beach Wilson at 10:45 a.m.
Huntington Beach 4, Aliso Niguel 3--Freshman Aaron McAthy scored his second varsity goal and midfielder Robert Ramirez had three assists for the Oilers (4-5-2).
Mike Campbell scored twice for Aliso Niguel. Byron Livingston had four saves for Huntington Beach, which plays South Torrance at 9 a.m. today. The Oilers lost to Tustin, 3-1, earlier Tuesday.
In the Don Lugo tournament:
Canyon 2, Chino 1--Ryan Hertel and Dan O’Leary each scored a goal to help Canyon (5-3-3) to its second victory of the day. Earlier, Hertel scored two goals in a 4-0 victory over Glendora. Josh Fraser and O’Leary each scored one.
In the Ontario Christian tournament:
Orange Lutheran 6, Covina Western Christian 1--Matt Stiles scored two goals to lead Orange Lutheran in consolation play. Goalie Chad Griswold had four saves and didn’t allow a goal in the Lancers’ loss on penalty kicks to Riverside Notre Dame in the first round.
In the Southern Sectional Cup:
Pomona Garey 2, Anaheim 2 (Garey advances on penalty kicks)--Guillermo Lemus scored a goal with less than five minutes left to play to tie it for Pomona Garey, which went on to win the second round game, 4-3 on penalty kicks.
The Colonists (2-3-3) defeated La Puente Nogales, 5-4, on penalty kicks in the first round.
