BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Los Alamitos Knocks Off Vista in Mt. Carmel Tournament

Jeremy Vandervoet had 24 points and eight rebounds as eighth-ranked Los Alamitos beat Vista, 63-61, Thursday in the final pool-play round of the San Diego Mt. Carmel Tournament.

Vista (10-2), which was top-ranked in the San Diego County Section I, was led by Matt Jager, with 27 points.

Los Alamitos (11-3) jumped to a 21-9 first-quarter lead. Cory Johnson had 11 points and Ali Ton had eight points and 13 assists.

In the Atascadero tournament:

El Toro 48, Atascadero 36--Travis Senik was named tournament most valuable player after scoring 15 points to lead El Toro (7-7) in the championship game. Jason Bethel, who added 13 points, was also named to the all-tournament team.

Whittier Christian 52, Alpha (British Columbia) 36--Trevor Ream scored 20 points and had 11 rebounds to lead Whittier Christian (6-7) in the seventh-place game.

In the Brea Olinda tournament:

Troy 68, Brea Olinda 64--Jeff Sand scored 37 points for Troy (9-5) in semifinals. The Warriors play Cerritos Gahr at 8:15 tonight in the final.

Brea Olinda (10-4) plays Rancho Buena Vista at 6:30 for third place.

In consolation games:

Santa Monica Crossroads 81, La Habra 73--Corey Holbert scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Highlanders (6-7). Teammate Dan Ploog added 13.

Rancho Alamitos 42, Long Beach St. Anthony 40--Randy Parrish scored 17 points and Aaron Trigg added eight points to lead Rancho Alamitos (5-8).

In the Canyon Tournament:

Cerritos 77, Bolsa Grande 58--Nickolas Maddox had 29 points and Allen Brown added 24 for Cerritos (5-7). Dinh Tan had 17 points to lead Bolsa Grande (5-6).

El Modena 86, Bev Facey (Canada) 33--Ryan Villmer paced El Modena (9-3) with 20 points and Ahad Lakhani added 18.

In the Coast Classic:

Edison 47, Irvine 36--Edison was able to keep ahead of Irvine throughout the game to win the low-scoring semifinal game. Mike Ogas had 12 points to lead the Chargers, who meet Rialto in the championship finals at 7:30 tonight.

In another tournament semifinal game:

Rialto 61, Dana Hills 59--Donald Meyers had 20 points for Dana Hills in its losing effort against Rialto. Daryle Lett had 18 points for Rialto, which meets Edison in the championships.

In the Daily Pilot Coast Classic:

Estancia 76, Corona del Mar 68--Dane Plock had 16 points and and Chris Candlish had 13 for Estancia (12-3) in the consolation victory. Dominic DeGrazier had 17 points to lead Corona del Mar (8-5). Estancia will take on Antioch at 4:10 p.m. and Corona del Mar will play Thousand Oaks at 2:30 p.m., both consolation matches.

Huntington Beach 72, Bakersfield Stockdale 61--Matt Jones had 21 points and 10 rebounds and Clay Chilcott had 16 points for Huntington Beach (7-5). Aaron Stacy had 19 points to lead Stockdale. In the consolation finals, Huntington Beach will play Long Beach Jordan at 12:40 p.m. today.

Bell 49, St. Margaret’s 46--Damian Raibon scored a game-high 28 points and grabbed eight rebounds, as St. Margaret’s (8-3) finished eighth in the tournament with the loss.

In the Katella Classic:

Los Angeles Jordan 70, Katella 61--No. 5 Katella lost for the first time this season, despite LaByron Clayton’s 25 points and 22 rebounds. Jaycee Armbruster added 15 points for the Knights (12-1).

Torrance Bishop Montgomery 52, Savanna 51--The Rebels (9-4) were defeated at the buzzer when Brandon Price’s five-foot leaner banked in for Bishop Montgomery. Kanhhuy Nguyen scored 17 points for Savanna, which plays Katella for third place at at 6 tonight.

In the Nogales tournament:

San Clemente 53, Monrovia 50--Gabe Gardner scored 23 points and had 10 rebounds as San Clemente won the consolation championship. The Tritons (8-7) have won eight of their last nine games.

In the Raleigh, N.C., tournament:

Marietta (Ga.) Lassiter 66, Santa Ana Valley 65--Santa Ana Valley’s Olujimi Mann, who scored 42 points, missed a last-second shot for the Falcons (8-5) against Georgia’s No. 1-ranked team in a tournament semifinal in Raleigh.

Santa Ana Valley plays the winner of Oak Hill (Va.)-Garner (N.C.) for third place today.

In the Orange Holiday Classic:

Valencia 60, Aliso Niguel 51--James Rivera led Valencia (3-12) with 17 points. Teammate Jermane Gray added 15 in the consolation game.

In Reno Reed Nevada tournament:

Woodbridge 68, Wooster (Nev.) 53--Chris Burgess had 33 points and 11 rebounds and Eric Ripley had 16 for Woodbridge (11-4) in the fifth-place game. Robert Beck had nine points to lead Wooster.

In the Sun Devil Classic:

La Quinta 66, Mira Costa 60--Greg Greenfield’s game-high 27 led La Quinta (6-6) to a consolation semifinal victory. Ronnie Johnson added 20 points for La Quinta, which plays for fifth place at 4 p.m. today against Palos Verdes Peninsula.

Trabuco Hills 75, Las Vegas El Dorado 71--Jon Paisley had 29 points and seven rebounds, Nick Punto scored 20 points and Rob Warnick added 13 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists to lead Trabuco Hills (9-5). Trabuco Hills will play Los Angeles Dorsey for fourth place at 5:30 p.m. today.
