HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Flowers’ Triple Gives Reseda a Rosy Finish, 2-0

Crystal Flowers drove in Priscilla Busane with a triple in the fourth inning and Reseda High went on to a 2-0 victory over Banning in the championship game of the Garfield softball tournament Saturday.

Kristy Rebbeck (7-0) and Rosie Yeatts combined to stop the Pilots on a one-hitter for the Regents (14-0).

In a 1-0 semifinal victory over Garfield earlier in the day, Yeatts (7-0) and Rebbeck combined on another one-hitter.

Yeatts drove in the run with a first-inning double.

Moorpark 5-8, Rio Mesa 0-2--Jenny Plante had two hits and drove in a run in the second game as the Musketeers swept a nonleague doubleheader at Rio Mesa.

Plante also tripled home a run in the first game for the Musketeers (9-2).

Tracey Milburn had three hits and drove in a run in the second game.

North Hollywood 21, Bell 9--Robin Rolfe just missed hitting for the cycle with a double, triple and a home run for the Huskies in a consolation game of the Garfield tournament.

Rolfe finished with four runs batted in and Tessa Basham contributed two doubles, a triple and three RBIs for North Hollywood (5-13).

Palmdale 9, Carson 2--Mikki Goldwater (3-0) pitched a five-hitter and the Falcons took advantage of five errors committed by the Colts in a first-round game of the High Desert Classic at Lancaster City Park.

Alemany 8, Palmdale 3--Kristi DiMarco had three hits and three stolen bases but the Falcons (8-4) lost to the Indians in a second-round game of the High Desert Classic.

Jaime Hodges (4-3) took the loss for Palmdale.

Cornerstone Christian 13, Hillcrest Christian 0--The Eagles (9-0) pounded out 16 hits and got home runs from Michelle Maloney, Karri Becker and Karen Breshears in a nonleague game to hand Hillcrest Christian its first defeat after 10 victories.

Breshears (4-0) pitched a two-hitter.

Saugus 8, Santa Margarita 0--Kelli Kranz went four for four and drove in four runs for the Centurions in a first-round game of the Woodbridge Tournament of Champions at Irvine.

Saugus 4, Huntington Beach 2--Jill Passafiume hit a two-run triple for the Centurions in the 10th inning of a second-round game in the Woodbridge tournament.

Passafiume collected five hits and four RBIs in the two games.

BASEBALL

Granada Hills 6, Paraclete 5--John Bolyard closed out the game with a strikeout, stranding the Spirits’ potential tying run at third base, in a first-round game of the Birmingham tournament at Granada Hills.

Bolyard, who struck out six, settled down for the Highlanders (8-5) after giving up three runs in the first inning.

Jarrod Penwarden had three hits for Granada Hills, with two doubles and two RBIs.

In other Birmingham tournament games:

Birmingham 7, Palisades 5--Ron Reynoso hit a tie-breaking two-run, two-out double for the Braves in the bottom of the fifth inning at Birmingham.

Andres Ycaza pitched two shutout innings in middle relief for the Braves (8-6) and Alberto Flores picked up the save by retiring the final six batters.

Notre Dame 14, Grant 3--The Knights (6-4-1) used 11 singles and a double to beat the Lancers at Grant.

Notre Dame’s Nick Galvan (2-0) held Grant (4-0) to three hits in four innings.

Dylan Forman had two hits and scored three runs for the Lancers.

El Camino Real 14, Westchester 3--The Conquistadores scored 10 runs in the fourth inning to break open the game at El Camino Real.

Nine walks and a two-run double by Gavin Bible were the keys to the explosion for El Camino Real (8-5-1).

Shaun Fishman had six strikeouts in relief for the Conquistadores.

San Fernando 8, Montclair Prep 6--Fernando Martin and Alex Esqueda had run-scoring singles for the Tigers, breaking a tie in the top of the seventh inning.

Danny Rodriguez went three for three with two RBIs for the Tigers (7-7).

Joe Cohen had two hits and two RBIs for the Mounties.

University 2, Cleveland 1--Nate Lee had a triple and an RBI for the Cavaliers (3-9) in a game at Cleveland.

Jesse Kurtz-Nicholl struck out 10 for University.

Franklin 4, Van Nuys 3--Frank Casaccia had a two-run double in the third inning, but the Wolves (2-11) were unable to hold an early three-run lead in a game at Franklin.

Loyola 5, Sylmar 4--The Spartans gave up only two hits, but six errors proved costly in a fourth-round game of the Westside tournament.

Sylmar (9-3) committed five errors in the final two innings, including a throwing error in the bottom of the seventh that led to the game-winning run.

Albert Palma hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning for the Spartans.

Ventura 4, Newbury Park 0--Seth Casey pitched a two-hitter for the Cougars in the first round of the Buena-Ventura tournament.

Shawn Winger hit a three-run homer in the second inning for Ventura (10-3).

El Segundo 6, Crespi 4--Tony Salazar had two hits and drove in a run but it wasn’t enough for the Celts in the ninth place game of the El Segundo tournament.

Crespi (6-8) made five errors, which led to four unearned runs for El Segundo.

Moorpark 7, Highland 3--The Musketeers advanced to the second round of the Babe Herman tournament by defeating the Bulldogs at Glendale High.

Ryan Yoshiwara and Andy Huisenga each had two hits and drove in a run for the Musketeers (5-7).

Justin Ames (4-2) went the distance for Moorpark, striking out seven and walking none.

Kevin Holeman had two hits and Jacob Stanwood contributed a run-scoring double for the Bulldogs.

Monroe 12, Crescenta Valley 7--Jessie Daggett had two hits and three RBIs for the Falcons, but Crescenta Valley (8-3) lost to the Vikings (7-7) in a first-round game of the Babe Herman tournament.

Crescenta Valley starter Brian Ferrera (0-1) went three innings and took the loss.
