More than 75 of Southern California’s top...

More than 75 of Southern California’s top high school senior baseball players will take part in tryouts Sunday at Rancho Santiago College for the annual North-South California All-Star game.

The three-game series will be held at Fresno Clovis High on June 9-11.

The California Coaches Assn. will select the top 20 players for the South team from the tryout, which begins at 9 a.m. and includes skill tests and scrimmages.

The South will be coached by Bob Zamora of Capistrano Valley and Mike Curren of Esperanza.

John Lee and James Wooley of Valencia, the Southern Section team golf champion, will lead the North team at the seventh Orange County Senior All-Star match Thursday at Newport Beach Country Club.

The South has won the event in each of its first six years, but last year the margin was the slimmest, 13-11. The North, coached by Valencia Coach John Winek, appears strong this year with Lee and Wooley, Sunny Hills’ Jenny Lee, Huntington Beach’s Jeff Farley and El Modena’s Sean Brocklebank among the eight-player team.

The South, coached by Los Amigos Coach John Keating, is led by Tustin’s Jimmy Lee, who finished fourth in the CIF-Southern California Golf Assn. tournament last season, Newport Harbor’s Morgan Anderson and Scott Rynders of Capistrano Valley.
