La Canada High pitcher Lindsay Parker threw her seventh no-hitter of the season and the 29th of her career and the Spartans scored in the bottom of the sixth inning Tuesday to beat Valley View, 1-0, in a Southern Section Division IV softball semifinal at Temple City High.

Last season, La Canada (25-3) and Valley View (25-6) met in the same place and in the same round with the same score, though it took the Spartans 14 innings to win.

La Canada won this year’s showdown in seven innings. But despite Parker’s performance, both she and her father, La Canada Coach Tom Parker, described the game as one of her worst of the season.

“She didn’t pitch well; her ball wasn’t moving and she didn’t have good command of her pitches,” Tom Parker said of Lindsay, who walked two and struck out seven, her lowest total in four playoff games. “It’s incredible to come out with a win and it’s a tribute to her team.”

La Canada will meet San Bernardino Cajon (26-4) in the final at Mayfair Park in Lakewood on Friday.

The Spartans made Parker (24-3) a winner with an assist from Valley View. After La Canada’s Lauren Burns walked with one out in the sixth and Stephanie Tenerelli came on to pinch run, No. 9 hitter Lori Hanson hit a ball into the right-center field gap.

Tenerelli reached third on the hit and scored when Eagle center fielder Shelly Koland bobbled the ball after a near-collision with right fielder Tammy Trezona.

“I hardly even remember hitting it,” Hanson said. “I get really nervous under pressure so I was just trying to make contact and not take a big swing.”

Hanson’s hit was the only one of the game and ruined the effort of Valley View pitcher Kelly Martin (21-6).
