PREP ROUNDUP : Foothill Routs Corona del Mar in Water Polo

Top-ranked Foothill defeated Corona del Mar, 14-5, in nonleague water polo Friday at Corona del Mar.

Robby Arroyo and Brian Brown each scored five goals for the Knights, who took a 2-0 lead before Corona del Mar (0-1) tied the score in the first quarter.

But Foothill (2-0) went on to score four goals in each of the last three quarters.

Paul Maull and Ryan Brown split goalkeeping duties for the Knights, each making three saves.

Alex Batley scored three and Billy Messenger had 13 saves for the Sea Kings, who graduated 11 seniors from the team that advanced to the Southern Section final.

In other nonleague water polo:

Katella 14, Saddleback 13--Saddleback scored two goals in the last three minutes of the game, but was unable to overtake Katella. Dave Shaddy and Phil Wirthgen each scored four goals and Dave Rooks three for Katella (4-2).

In the Long Beach Millikan water polo tournament:

Los Alamitos 7, Santa Barbara 3--John Pearce scored three goals for No. 10 Los Alamitos (4-0). Charles Brodsky had nine saves for the Griffins.

Villa Park 12, Ventura Buena 2--Pete Cornue scored four goals and Brian Pharris three for Villa Park (3-0).

In the Riverside tournament:

La Habra 18, Encino Crespi 3--Cameron Thrash scored four goals and Jeff Prescott had three for La Habra.

In Sunset League field hockey:

Fountain Valley 2, Glendora 0--Hollie Bergels and Kristy Wainwright each scored a goal for Fountain Valley (2-1).

In nonleague tennis:

Bolsa Grande 17, Westminster 1--Chi Chung didn’t lose a game for Bolsa Grande (3-1, 1-0). Teammate Linh Nguyen swept 6-1, 6-1, 6-0, and Chau Tang also swept 6-1, 6-0, 6-0.

El Modena 10, Esperanza 8--Freshmen Christina Hernandez and Jacklyn McGaughy swept their doubles sets, 6-4, 6-3, 6-1, for El Modena (1-2).

El Toro 12, Capistrano Valley 6--Arwen Rahn and Laura Torrey swept their doubles sets, 6-4, 7-5, 6-2, for El Toro (4-0).

Newport Harbor 14, Estancia 4--Erica Nelson swept, 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 at singles for eighth-ranked Newport Harbor (3-0).

Santa Margarita 16, San Clemente 2--Jessica Pierog and Sari Orlando swept in doubles, 6-3, 6-3, 6-4, for Santa Margarita (5-0).
