With strong play from its players, top-ranked Corona del Mar had no trouble with sixth-ranked Laguna Beach, winning, 12-6, in nonleague girls’ tennis Wednesday at Corona del Mar.

Though Laguna Beach was without one of its top players in Lindsay Weiss, who was on a recruiting trip to Northwestern University, Corona del Mar performed well with excellent play from sophomore Nina Vaughan and seniors Megan Wachtler and Alissa Scott.

In No. 1 singles, two of the county’s best players battled it out with Michelle Bray of Laguna Beach beating Vaughan, 6-4, in the first set.
