Northridge, which opens its regular season on Saturday at Nevada Las Vegas, played better than it did in a victory over less-challenging United Arab Emirates team Friday night.

Two of the best performances came from Oronoz, who missed several practices in the past week because of flu, and point guard Trenton Cross, who missed the first few weeks of camp because of injuries from a car accident 3 1/2 months ago. Cross ran the offense well and had five assists.

The Matadors also got 18 points from Gerald Rhoden, who didn’t figure to be in Northridge’s rotation but may be earning himself playing time.

High Five America, a team of former college players, began the game with only six players in uniform because others were stuck in traffic. The team had 10 when the game ended.
