Kennedy Ace Has Been a Real Pitching Machine
- Share via
Last season, Kennedy senior Derek Morse pitched the Golden Cougars to the City Section 4-A baseball championship. Now, future Golden Cougars will benefit from his ability.
Last Tuesday, in a San Fernando Valley tournament game against Monroe, Morse pitched a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks. He was chosen the inaugural winner of the Southern California Diamond Star of the Week by XTRA radio’s John “the Coach” Kentera on his high school show Friday night.
As part of the award, a Whiffleball pitching machine will be donated to the school in Monroe’s name. The machine hasn’t arrived on campus yet, but Coach Manny Alvarado figures it will be an improvement. “We’re excited about it,” Alvarado said. “I’m sure we’ll find a use for it.”
