Waves’ Brown Has Knee Surgery

Share

Pepperdine guard Gerald Brown, leading scorer in the West Coast Conference this basketball season, underwent reconstructive surgery on his right knee Wednesday at the Medical Plaza Orthopedic Surgery Center in Santa Monica.

Brown, a 6-foot-3 junior who averaged 17.8 points a game, suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament when he collided with teammate Bryan Hill late in the first half of Pepperdine’s 63-60 upset of Santa Clara in the first round of the WCC tournament March 2.

A Pepperdine spokesman said it is too early to determine if Brown will recover in time for the start of the 1996-97 season. Brown has a redshirt season available.
