Southern Section pollsters should take notice. Apple Valley has a 15-0 record, has outscored its opponents, 83-9, has a team earned-run average of 0.25, was champion of the Simi Valley tournament, but is unranked in this week’s section coaches’ poll. “I don’t know what [the CIF] wants us to do,” said Apple Valley shortstop Felecity Willis. “We know we’re good and that’s all that matters.” Willis, who will attend Arizona this fall on a basketball scholarship, was the Citrus Belt League most valuable player last year and is hitting .450 this season. . . . Wilmington Banning freshman Ninette Martinez recently pitched two complete-game shutouts, leading the Pilots to victory in the Garfield tournament. Martinez has a 9-2 record and Banning is 16-3 despite having only one senior in the starting lineup. . . . San Pedro freshman pitcher Heather Grice, filling in for injured senior Liza Prieto, is 7-0 with a 1.75 ERA. The Pirates are 5-0 in the Southern Pacific Conference. . . . Lana Moran of Cajon had 30 strikeouts in a 21-inning, 1-0 victory over San Gorgonio on April 2. Moran (16-3) will attend Oklahoma in the fall. . . . Cerritos Valley Christian pitcher Susie Scholes is 6-0 and has yet to give up a run, while averaging nine strikeouts per game. Scholes, who will attend Hawaii Pacific in the fall, is the two-time Southern Section Division V player of the year. The Crusaders (7-0-1) are going for their third consecutive divisional title.
