Tustin Loses First League Match in More Than Two Years

Ocean View handed Tustin its first league loss in more than two years, winning three of four games in Golden West League boys’ volleyball Wednesday at Ocean View.

Glen Tanner and Ted Norman led the Seahawks with 18 kills each as Ocean View beat the Tillers, 15-11, 14-16, 16-14, 15-13. Ocean View improved to 8-4, 5-2.

In another Golden West League match:

Saddleback 3, Westminster 1--Hai Nguyen had eight kills for Saddleback (6-7, 4-3), which won, 15-12, 13-15, 15-4, 15-6.

In the Empire League:

Western 3, Loara 0--Steve Sieks had 11 kills for visiting Western (11-2, 6-1), which won, 15-9, 15-4, 15-2.

In the Garden Grove League:

La Quinta 3, Garden Grove 1--Scott Ogilvie had 20 kills and 13 blocks for visiting La Quinta (11-2, 9-0), which won, 15-13, 3-15, 16-14, 15-13.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Aliso Niguel 3, Costa Mesa 0--Cory Chandler had 12 kills for host Aliso Niguel (11-4, 6-1), which won, 15-10, 15-5, 15-7.

Laguna Beach 3, University 1--Valdimir Andric had 29 kills for host Laguna Beach (10-1, 8-0), which won, 16-14, 15-2, 12-15, 15-10.

Laguna Hills 3, Estancia 2--Jon Marshall had 31 kills and Jamie Mann had 52 assists for Laguna Hills (7-6, 3-4), which beat Estancia, 13-15, 12-15, 15-3, 15-11, 15-3.

In the Sunset League:

Huntington Beach 3, Marina 0--Corey Gremel had 13 kills for host Huntington Beach (12-1, 6-1), which won, 15-13, 15-3, 15-7.

In Sea View League golf:

Santa Margarita 195, Newport Harbor 221--Nate Blauer shot a one-over-par 37 to lead Santa Margarita at Coto de Caza’s north course. Santa Margarita is 14-1, 8-1.

In nonleague golf:

Savanna 217, Paramount 268--Chris Eichman shot three-under-par 32 at Dad Miller for Savanna (8-9).

Woodbridge 172, Foothill 178--Kyle Song and John Hafner each shot four-under 32s at Rancho San Joaquin for Woodbridge.

In Empire League boys’ swimming:

El Dorado 109, Kennedy 61--Mike Tse won the 100 freestyle (49.86 seconds) and swam on the winning 400 relay team (3:27.31) with Justin Arneson, Scott Fedor and Tim Martin for Kennedy.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Estancia 105, Laguna Beach 39--Chad Bollenbach won two events to help Estancia win its first league meet. Bollenbach finished the 200 freestyle in 1:57.98 and 100 free in 50.80.

Laguna Hills 102 Costa Mesa 68--Goh Phunangthong was a double winner for Laguna Hills, swimming the 200 (1:47.57) and 100 freestyles (49.25).

In Century League girls’ swimming:

Orange 104, El Modena 66--Alyson Edoff finished first in the 200 free (1:56.91) and 500 free (5:43.19) and Josephina Kim won the 100 backstroke (1:02.68) and 100 free (57.75) for Orange (7-2, 3-2).

In the Freeway League:

Troy 134, Buena Park 41--Erin Stafford of Troy won the 50 free in 25.78 to post a Southern Section qualifying time.

In the Golden West League:

Rosary 130, Ocean View 30--Junior Ablla Younis won the 50 free (25.2) and the 100 back (1:04.8), qualifying both strokes in Southern Section Division II. With these times, Younis has qualified for Southern Section in all eight individual events.

In the South Coast League:

Mission Viejo 107, Mater Dei 63--Fourth-ranked Mission Viejo won all three relay events to help defeat ninth-ranked Mater Dei. Mater Dei’s Jessamyn Miller turned in the third-fastest butterfly time this season, winning the event in 1:00.09.
