Semifinal Round Set for Today
Today’s Southern Section playoff semifinals in girls’ tennis will feature six-time defending champion Palos Verdes Peninsula (20-3) at second-seeded Corona del Mar (19-3) in Division I. The Sea Kings defeated Peninsula this season, 11-7, and have added transfer Courtney Tenerelli to their doubles lineup since the regular season ended. The other Division I semifinal has top-seeded Newport Harbor (22-2) traveling to unseeded Camarillo (19-1).
Top-seeded Dana Hills hosts unseeded Santa Maria Righetti in one Division II semifinal and unseeded Mater Dei (16-5) travels to third-seeded Palm Desert in the other. The only all-county and inter-league semifinal is in Division III, where top-seeded Woodbridge (21-2) of the Sea View League is at fourth-seeded Santa Margarita (11-8).
In Division IV, top-seeded Rosary (21-1) hosts fourth-seeded Calabasas, and in Division V, Laguna Beach (14-8) travels to Carpinteria Cate.
On Saturday, the Southern Section individual playoffs will be at four sites around Southern California. Most county players will be playing at Huntington Beach High, but others will be at Billie Jean King Tennis Center in Long Beach, Agoura High and the Westlake Racquet Club, and the Claremont Club.
