Brea Olinda Gets Shot at Fellow No. 1 Team

Brea Olinda, ranked No. 1 in Orange County, will play the top-ranked team from the Los Angeles City section tonight when the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions continues.

Brea Olinda reached the tournament semifinals with a 51-41 victory over La Crescenta Crescenta Valley at Santa Barbara City College.

The Ladycats (6-0), who will play L.A. Washington, were led by Stephanie Wettlin with 17 points, including 10 of Brea’s 15 fourth-quarter points. Jennifer Saari scored 12.

In other tournament games:

Berkeley 58, Woodbridge 54--With eight seconds remaining in the game and second-ranked Woodbridge (5-1) down, 56-54, Krissy Duperron made the first of a one-and-one, but was called for a lane violation, giving defending North Coast Section champion Berkeley the ball and the victory.

Woodbridge trailed at halftime, 26-21, but took a 39-37 lead into the fourth quarter. Nicole Roberts led Woodbridge with 16 points and Duperron finished with 13.

L.A. Washington 49, Laguna Hills 36--Washington, ranked No. 1 in the City Section and its defending section champion, broke open a two-point game by outscoring Laguna Hills--ranked No. 3 in Orange County--16-5 in the third quarter. Whitney Houser had 17 points to lead Laguna Hills (5-2). Tamara Inoue added 13, but 6-foot-6 Tayyiba Haneef was held to two points.

In the Artesia Brethren Christian tournament:

Cypress 49, Paramount 15--Jennifer Laster scored 12 points and Lindsay Weaver added 11 in the victory for Cypress (6-3).

In the Gary Raya Coed Classic:

Aliso Niguel 46, Fullerton 12--Brooke Hyman scored 21 points in a pool-play victory for Aliso Niguel (4-3).

Corona 52, Valencia 35--Heather Hoppe scored 10 points in the loss for Valencia (2-7).

In the La Quinta Tournament:

Troy 40, Esperanza 35--Troy held off a late surge to upset eighth-ranked Esperanza in the championship game. Heidi Hardeman had 15 points to lead Troy. Leah Combs had 11 for Esperanza.

In the third-place game:

Santiago 49, La Quinta 27--Santiago came from behind for the victory as Stacy Trujillo scored 11 points. Nadia Ariz had 11 and 20 rebounds for La Quinta.

In the consolation games:

Dana Hills 66, Norwalk Glenn 27--Dana Hills (2-8) led 22-1 after the first quarter. Geri Howard had 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Dolphins.

In the Lake Highland (Fla.) tournament:

Edison 57, Newport (Fla.) Hudson 29--Allison Libeu scored 13 points as Edison (8-0) advanced to the title game.. Michelle Zylstra added 12 points and seven rebounds.

In the Las Vegas tournament:

Fountain Valley 68, Las Vegas Virgin Valley 50--Fountain Valley (3-4) outscored Virgin Valley, 25-10, in the fourth quarter. Kelly Boeke scored 22 points and Jocelyn Tu added 17 for the Barons.

In the Mt. Carmel tournament:

Santa Margarita 52, West Hills 36--Carlie Willard scored 14 points and Danielle Bennett had 12 for Santa Margarita (7-2).

In nonleague basketball:

Century 57, El Toro 36--Allison Napier scored 14 points for Century (8-2). Giuliana Mendiola scored 13 for El Toro (7-1).

Huntington Beach 59, Mission Viejo 48--Phouangmaly Pravongviengkham scored 30 for Huntington Beach (7-1). Tami Higham led Mission Viejo (5-3) with 26 points and 12 rebounds.

Whittier California 49, Sunny Hills 25--Melissa Kulak scored nine for Sunny Hills (0-7).
