Vansloten’s Overtime Goal Keeps Royal Boys on Roll
Jake Vansloten scored with two minutes to play in overtime, lifting the Royal High boys’ soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Newbury Park in a Marmonte League match Friday at Royal.
After beginning league play 1-2, the Highlanders (16-5-1, 7-2) have now won six consecutive league matches and are in sole possession of first place.
Vansloten’s goal, his third, came when he redirected a crossing pass by Kendall Simmonds. Newbury Park is 11-4-2, 4-3.
Thousand Oaks 2, Simi Valley 1--Jared Wolfson scored two first-half goals off plays beginning on throw-ins, lifting the visiting Lancers (9-6, 4-3) to a Marmonte League victory over the Pioneers (15-4-3, 5-2-2).
Littlerock 1, Antelope Valley 0--Tim Cea’s 20th goal gave the visiting Lobos (9-4-2, 3-1-1) a Golden League victory over the Antelopes (3-9-2, 0-3-2).
La Canada 2, Blair 1--Bryan Jackson took a pass from Chris Cuellar and scored with 17 minutes to play, giving the host Spartans (12-1-2, 3-1-2) a Rio Hondo League victory.
La Canada goalkeeper Matt Cardis stopped a penalty shot with 11 minutes to play.
Grant 4, Van Nuys 1--Miro Bilaver scored four goals for the host Lancers (14-3-7, 3-2-5) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Grant.
Bilaver has 21 goals.
Reseda 2, North Hollywood 0--Alex Acevedo converted a first-half penalty kick in the first half and scored a second-half goal for the Regents (10-1-1, 7-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference victory over the host Huskies (6-2-1, 5-2).
GIRLS
La Reina 6, St. Bonaventure 0--Aimee Thompson, Rebecca Miller and Sara Leibowitz each scored twice and the Regents (14-1-1, 4-1) forged a tie for the Tri-Valley League lead with the visiting Seraphs (14-3-1, 4-1).
St. Bonaventure, the defending league champion and a 3-2 winner over La Reina on Monday, played without starters Chrissy Pike, Kelly Dyer and Erin Croasmun. The three were injured in two separate car accidents Tuesday and are expected to be out at least a week.
Crescenta Valley 2, Arcadia 0--Stephanie Rigamat scored her 30th goal to give the visiting Falcons (12-2-2, 6-0) the Pacific League lead.
Hart 2, Canyon 1--Courtney Sherlock’s second-half goals rallied the Indians (15-1-2, 6-0) over the host Cowboys (11-4-3, 4-2) and pushed them closer to their fourth consecutive Foothill League title.
Simi Valley 3, Thousand Oaks 1--Anna Wolleck scored three second-half goals and the Pioneers (11-5-1, 8-2) won a Marmonte League match at Simi Valley.
Kristie Nakamura scored her 17th goal of the season for the Lancers.
