It’s only the Southern Section quarterfinals, but the new regional format has produced some matchups that are worthy of the semifinals or championships.
In Division I, third-seeded Capistrano Valley (17-1) hosts Huntington Beach (17-3). Capistrano Valley’s only loss was to Santa Margarita, the top-seeded team in Division II. Huntington Beach lost twice to Esperanza, fourth-seeded in Division I, and Laguna Beach, top-seeded in Division III.
In another Division I quarterfinal, fourth-seeded Esperanza (16-1) hosts Glendale Hoover (11-4).
With the new enrollment divisions, traditional Division I powers meet in the Division III quarterfinals when top-seeded Laguna Beach (15-3) hosts Corona del Mar (12-4). Another quarterfinal has fourth-seeded Calvary Chapel (13-3) hosting North Hollywood Campbell Hall (15-2).
In Division II, top-seeded Santa Margarita (16-2) hosts Servite (11-7) and El Dorado (18-2) plays at third-seeded Goleta Dos Pueblos (14-4).
