Huskies Show They’re for Real

Looking to establish itself as a contender for the City Section 4-A Division title, the North Hollywood High girls’ basketball team accomplished its goal of winning the Washington tournament.
The Huskies won four games en route to the title, including victories over perennial City powerhouses Dorsey and Washington.
The Huskies were led by tournament most valuable player Tashean Thomas, who averaged 16.8 points in four games. She scored 16 points and Claudia Villa had 19 points in the 72-55 victory over Washington.
“The girls were very determined,” North Hollywood Coach Rich Allen said. “It was kind of an us-against-the-world kind of thing.”
Add Thomas: The junior point guard, who made 12 steals against Washington and had 26 in the tournament, has become a better defensive player by harnessing her speed and quickness. “She’s learned when to try to steal the ball,” Allen said.
