MIGUEL FLETCHER

Alemany, Jr. 100 meters

* With a season best of 10.65, Fletcher didn’t run as fast in the 100 this year as he did last year (10.47), but he improved his finish in the state championships by six spots when he clocked a wind-aided 10.60 to finish second behind Fargas.

CHRIS FORDE

Notre Dame, Sr., 200 meters

* The top-ranked 400 sprinter in the region ran a career-best of 21.53 to finish fourth in the Southern Section Division III championships.

LARRY JONES

Taft, Jr., 400 meters

* Larry and twin Lawrence took turns beating each other all season before Larry won the City title in a career-best of 47.80 with Lawrence third in 48.12.

SCOTT JOHNSEN

Rio Mesa, Sr., 800 meters

* The runner-up in the Ventura County championships won the Channel League title and placed eighth in the Southern Section Division II final.

REY CORONADO

Camarillo, Sr., 1,600 meters

* The Ventura County champion failed to advance to final of the Southern Section Division I championships but he ran between 4:21.0 and 4:22.50 four times.

JACOB GEYER

Palmdale, Sr., 3,200 meters

* The Utah State-bound Geyer ran a career-best of 9:23.70 to finish fourth in the Southern Section Division I championships, but his best race of the season came in the Mt. San Antonio College Relays when he clocked 8:39.29 to place seventh in the 3,000.

MOHAMED AHMED

Birmingham, Sr., 110-meter high hurdles

300-meter intermediate hurdles

* Ahmed finished fifth in the 110 highs and fourth in the 300 intermediates in the City championships and has bests of 14.95 and 38.9 in the events.

BIRMINGHAM

400-meter relay

* Juniors Demetrus Patterson and Raheem Chisman and seniors Ahmed and Damien Noble clocked a school record time of 41.8 twice and finished sixth in the City championships in 42.28.

TAFT

1,600-meter relay

* Twins Larry and Lawrence Jones, fellow junior Sedric Hurns and sophomore Blaine Bussey ran a school record of 3:15.22 to place fourth in the state championships after winning the City title in 3:16.94.

EDWARD MALDUR

Birmingham, Sr., high jump

* Maldur came up short in his quest to clear 6-6, but he did make 6-4 in several meets, including the City finals when he placed third.

JEREMY CUNNINGHAM

Verdugo Hills, Sr., pole vault

* The vaulter formerly known as Jeremy Pope cleared a career-best of 14-6 twice. The second time gave him the City title, making him the first Verdugo Hills athlete to win a City Section title in the event.

CARL RICHARDSON

Rio Mesa, Sr., long jump

* Richardson didn’t start competing in this event until midway through the season, but he won the Ventura County title with a career-best of 22-7 1/4, placed second behind Palmore in the Channel League finals and finished sixth in the Southern Section Division II

championships.

KRISTIAN PHILLIPS

Rio Mesa, Sr., triple jump

* The Ventura County champion led the region with a career-best of 47-3 1/4 and placed third in the Southern Section Division II finals.

BRIAN NELSON

Newbury Park, Sr., shotput

* Nelson, who raised his career best to 53-5 3/4, won the Ventura County and Marmonte League titles to give Newbury Park its third consecutive victory in the shotput in those meets.

BOBBY DEMARS

Westlake, Sr., discus

* DeMars, who is headed to USC on a football scholarship, finished second in the Ventura County championships and threw a region-leading 162-11 to win the Marmonte League title.
