Newhall Saugus 13, Palmdale 12--Newhall Saugus (22-7) exploded for eight runs in the third inning and eliminated Palmdale (22-7) at Birmingham High.

Bobby Potruch, Chris Wright, J.T. Stotts, Jason Willis and Mike Granger each had two hits for Newhall Saugus.

For Palmdale, Chris Testa had three hits and four RBIs, Mike Arrellano had three doubles, Alex Suarez had three hits and Mark Hendricks and Brian Stieneach had two hits.

Palmdale’s Sheldon Martin led off the ninth inning with a single. Corey Briggs and Arrellano flied out and Jason Gorman struck out to end the game.

The teams combined for 31 hits. Palmdale committed five errors and Newhall Saugus had none.

For Woodland Hills West, Woody Cliffords had two doubles, Mike Conn had two hits and two RBIs, Brian Somoza had two hits and Conor Jackson had two RBIs.

Woodland Hills West had 10 hits.

Central Valley’s Casey Roth and Jared Mills each had two hits, including a double.

Mills (4-3) pitched five innings and took the loss. He allowed six hits, struck out one and walked one.
