In other Division III first-round games:

Arcadia 26, Buena 6--Andrew Policky caught two touchdown passes and intercepted a pass, returning it 74 yards for another score to lead the Apaches to an upset at Ventura High.

Policky, who had five receptions for 79 yards, caught scoring passes of 26 and 30 yards from Richard Searing, who completed 10 of 15 for 174 yards for the Apaches (8-3), the third-place representative from the Pacific League.

Searing threw a third touchdown pass to Jon Herbstreith.

Sophomore Kyle Loughman completed 14 of 34 passes for 233 yards for Buena (8-3), which fell behind, 20-0, by halftime and didn’t score until late in the third quarter when Loughman connected on a 79-yard touchdown pass play to Shane Beck.

Beck caught four passes for 112 yards.

Micah Thomas added five receptions for 42 yards for Buena, the Channel League champion, which had a five-game winning streak snapped.

The Bulldogs’ leading rusher, Aaron Kleefisch, was held to 27 yards in 14 carries. Kleefisch finished the season with 1,107 rushing yards.

Buena played without receiver-defensive back David McAlpine, who sustained 21 stitches in his right hand after tripping at home and smashing the hand through a window Tuesday.

Buena, the Channel League champion, overcame adversity all season. Defensive lineman Jeff Larson suffered a stroke after a game two months ago and has made a strong recovery, although he did not return to the team.
