A look at the Southern Section divisions in which Orange County’s large-school football teams compete (rankings are from Southern Section divisional polls):

DIVISION I

A 24-7 victory by Los Angeles Loyola, ranked third in the division, over seventh-ranked Santa Fe Springs St. Paul Saturday night left just six unbeatens. . . . That number will likely be reduced by two more on Friday, when Loyola plays La Puente Bishop Amat and Mater Dei faces Mission Viejo. . . . The competition for the wild-card berth in the playoffs will be heavy, as the Del Rey, South Coast and Sunset leagues each had four or more teams with only one loss in nonleague play.

CITRUS BELT

DIVISION V

Santa Margarita and Tustin, ranked Nos. 1 and 2, combined to outscore their opponents, 138-0. They average 47 and 52 points per game, respectively. . . . Fourth-ranked Woodbridge’s 17-10 victory over No. 3 Newport Harbor Saturday night trimmed the number of unbeatens to four, including Magnolia, which already has its highest victory total since 1985.

CENTURY

Covina’s 24-6 victory over West Covina South Hills Friday could prove to be the game that decides the Valle Vista League title. Covina entered the game ranked No. 5, South Hills No. 4. . . . If top-ranked Rancho Alamitos winds up as the division’s top-seeded team, it will have earned the honor. The Vaqueros will face No. 10 Pacifica, No. 9 Los Amigos and Covina during the final four weeks of the season.

FREEWAY
