Waves Pull Rank Again, Beat UCSB
Pepperdine defeated its third ranked team in five days, knocking off seventh-ranked UC Santa Barbara, 13-15, 15-6, 15-6, 15-11, in a women’s volleyball match Tuesday night at Pepperdine.
Nicole Sanderson delivered 19 kills and Karen Benkovsky added 18 for the 19th-ranked Waves, who lost their previous nine matches to the Gauchos (9-1).
Pepperdine, which defeated Hawaii and Pacific last weekend, is 10-0 for the first time since 1976, the second year of the program.
Concordia (Irvine) d. Cal Lutheran, 15-4, 12-15, 15-11, 15-6--Lauren McCartin and Marianne Moll each had 11 kills, and Jamey Light added 17 digs for the Regals (0-1) at Concordia.
MEN’S WATER POLO
Valley 25, El Camino 7--Jason Payne and Mike Scarcelli each scored five goals and Joey Bennett had four for the Monarchs (6-3) at Valley.
Peter Driscoll and Ed Saakyan each had nine saves for Valley while splitting goalkeeping duties.
WOMEN’S WATER POLO
Valley 7, El Camino 6--Lianna Kishimoto scored three goals for the Monarchs (3-2) at Valley.
MEN’S SOCCER
The Master’s 3, Point Loma Nazarene 2--Paul Dojo scored in overtime and the Mustangs (2-4) knocked off Point Loma Nazarene (6-1) at Newhall.
Moorpark 5, Los Angeles City 0--Allen Milin scored two goals and the Raiders (2-2-1) routed the Cubs (2-3-1) at Moorpark.
CS Dominguez Hills 2, Cal Lutheran 1--Ryan Girod scored in the 87th minute but the Kingsmen (1-2) lost to the Toros (3-3) at Cal Lutheran.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Moorpark 7, Oxnard 0--Freshman Nikki Hagouel scored three goals for the Raiders in a Western State Conference match at Oxnard.
