Hart Gets Jump On Thousand Oaks, 35-7

Kyle Boller connected with Jerry Owens on a 72-yard flea-flicker for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage, setting the tone for Hart High’s 35-7 nonleague victory over Thousand Oaks on Friday night at Thousand Oaks High.

Boller, wearing a different jersey number than his regular No. 8, lined up as a back.

Owens made eight catches for 197 yards and two touchdowns. His second touchdown was a 10-yard pass from David Neill, who completed 20 of 36 passes for 281 yards.

Trailing, 14-0, Thousand Oaks (0-2) scored on a seven-play, 55-yard drive, finished by Wes Cobos’ 31-yard touchdown run. Cobos broke two tackles, then ran over Hart’s Trevor Rich on his way to the end zone.

Hart (2-0), ranked No. 8 in The Times’ regional poll, then scored 21 consecutive points. John Harrison scored two of the touchdowns, from three and five yards out. Harrison’s second touchdown capped a 14-play, 81-yard drive that took 7:21 off the clock.
