Longtime track and field coach Paul Wood is retiring after this school year, Huntington Beach Athletic Director Dave Van Hoorebeke said.

Wood is one of three Huntington Beach coaches who will not return next year, Van Hoorebeke said. Few have enjoyed Wood’s longevity, though. He coached track for 35 years and cross-country for 27 seasons.

Van Hoorebeke said Wood’s cross-country teams won two Sunset League titles and two Empire League titles.

“He’s off to Palm Springs,” Van Hoorebeke said.

Erin Rands, who coached boys’ cross-country this past season, resigned that position and will coach the girls only.

Charles Tyler, who coached boys’ soccer for three years, resigned for personal reasons, Van Hoorebeke said.
