Westlake Wins on Daly’s Goal, 2-1
Megan Daly beat charging goalkeeper Christine Hobbs with a 20-yard shot in the 27th minute to give the Westlake High girls’ soccer team a 2-1 Marmonte League victory over visiting Thousand Oaks on Monday.
Daly’s 18th goal came off a long pass from Cori Frost and gave the Warriors (13-3-1, 7-1-1 in league play) a 2-0 lead.
Lancer Susan Shivokevich scored on a 50-yard breakaway two minutes before halftime. Westlake’s Jenna Wirtz opened the scoring by heading in a corner kick by Patty Hosten.
In other girls’ games:
Agoura 2, Newbury Park 0--Ayemi Sein and April Blaker each scored for the Chargers (14-5-2, 6-3-1) in a Marmonte League game at Newbury Park.
Simi Valley 5, Channel Islands 0--Lori Tande had a goal and two assists, and Valorie Annunziata had a goal and an assist for the Pioneers (13-5, 9-1) in a Marmonte League game at Simi Valley.
St. Bonaventure 3, La Reina 2--Christina Gonzalez scored her second goal two minutes into the second half to snap a 1-1 tie and put the Seraphs (15-1-1, 4-0) ahead for good in a key Tri-Valley League game at La Reina. The victory gave St. Bonaventure sole possession of first place.
Aimee Thompson, who converted a penalty kick earlier, nearly made a potential tying kick for the Regents (11-3, 3-1) with eight minutes remaining.
BOYS’ SOCCER
Westlake 2, Thousand Oaks 1--Jared Voeltz scored with an assist from Kevin McKenna to lift the Warriors (9-6-1, 4-4-1) past the first-place Lancers (12-3-3, 8-1-1) in a Marmonte League game at Thousand Oaks.
Voeltz’s goal broke a 1-1 tie and capped a second-half rally by Westlake after Thousand Oaks had taken a 1-0 lead on Mark Bampton’s goal in the 45th minute of play.
Royal 1, Camarillo 0--Jake Van Sloten took a cross from Jerrod Gonzales and scored on a header from 12 yards with 12 minutes remaining in a Marmonte League match at Royal.
Simi Valley 2, Channel Islands 1--Ryan Meuse and Sergio Renes scored second-half goals as the Pioneers came from behind to beat Channel Islands in a Marmonte League game at Channel Islands.
GIRLS’ WATER POLO
Thousand Oaks 12, Agoura 7--Christy Hindley scored two of her three goals in the fourth quarter when the Lancers (14-2, 8-0) stretched a 10-7 lead to the final margin.
Royal 8, Malibu 2--Jennifer Lilly had four goals for the Highlanders (9-7, 7-1) in a Marmonte League game at Rancho Simi Park.
Westlake 11, Calabasas 1--Colleen Schiman had four goals and Hilary Shuler three for Westlake (5-9, 2-6) in a Marmonte League game at Newbury Park High.
