Martinez Hits Five Homers

Chris Martinez hit five home runs, including two grand slams, and drove in 15 runs for the Chaminade High baseball team in a doubleheader sweep over Big Bear on Saturday at Big Bear.

Martinez, who has 20 home runs this year, broke Ryan Hamill’s school season record of 16 with two home runs in the opening 14-4 victory. Martinez had four hits and drove in six runs in the game.

He hit three more home runs, including two in one inning, and had nine runs batted in in the second game, a 23-3 Eagle victory. Freshman Jim Milkovich had two home runs and six RBIs for Chaminade, which hit six home runs in the second game.

Martinez had two home runs and five RBIs on Friday against Loyola, giving him seven home runs and 20 RBIs in two days.

Crespi 5, Westlake 2--Tim Mathews’ three-run home run in the fourth inning off Jake Pullen (0-2) gave the Celts a 4-0 lead in a nonleague game at Westlake.

SOFTBALL

Camarillo 2, Simi Valley 1--Cindy Ball (9-1) pitched a five-hitter, had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run for Camarillo (15-5) in the Thousand Oaks tournament third-place game at the Thousand Oaks Community Center.

Chaminade 5, Lakewood 0--Maureen LeCocq (16-7) pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts and no walks and Meghan Holbrook had three hits and an RBI to lift the Eagles (16-7-1) in the ninth-place game at the Thousand Oaks tournament.

TRACK AND FIELD

Pacific League finals--David Movsesian won the 800 meters and anchored Glendale’s victory in the 1,600 relay at Arcadia High.

For the girls, Tara Gregory won the 800 and 1,600 meters, and anchored Crescenta Valley’s 400 and 1,600 relay teams, which placed second and third, respectively.
