Ventura Strings Bakersfield Along, 2-1

Krista Janik and Lacy Hanna scored in the first half and Ventura College defeated Bakersfield, 2-1, in a Western State Conference women’s soccer game Friday at Ventura.
The Pirates (16-0-2, 14-0 in conference play) ran their conference unbeaten streak to 42 games.
Janik scored her 10th goal on a crossing pass from the right side by Sharon Collins in the eighth minute. Hanna gave the Pirates a 2-0 lead with a head shot for her seventh goal in the 34th minute, after taking a crossing pass from fullback Melissa Thaxton.
Ventura outshot the Roadrunners, 28-4, but Bakersfield broke the shutout in the 80th minute.
In other women’s soccer games:
Moorpark 1, Cuesta 1--Moorpark (11-4-4, 8-2-3) forged a tie when midfielder Kathy Cera scored in the 75th minute of a WSC game at Moorpark.
Santa Barbara 1, Glendale 0--Terra Tilleh-Kooh scored in the 20th minute for the Vaqueros (9-3-3, 8-3-2) in a WSC game at Santa Barbara.
Santa Monica 4, Oxnard 0--Norma Gutierrez took seven of 12 shots on goal for the Condors (2-13-1, 2-10-1) but was unable to convert in a a WSC loss at Oxnard.
Maria Iraheta scored two goals for Santa Monica.
MEN’S SOCCER
Santa Barbara 3, Moorpark 1--Russell Prior scored in the 60th minute for Raiders (12-4-3, 3-2-0) to prevent a shutout in a WSCgame at Santa Barbara (13-2-2, 3-1-1).
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Eastern Washington def. CS Northridge, 15-7, 16-14, 15-10--Nancy Ma had 12 kills and 14 digs and Laura Szymanski had 16 kills, but the Matadors (8-8, 4-5) were swept in a Big Sky match at Northridge.
Eastern Washington (17-2, 8-1) got 12 kills and 18 digs from Lacey Coover and Angie Hall added seven kills, 15 digs and six blocks.
Canyons def. Pierce, 15-7, 15-4, 15-6--Mary Keen had 14 kills and eight digs for the Cougars in a WSC victory at Pierce.
