VOLLEYBALL

* Cam Dickson, a middle blocker at Royal High, has committed to Cal State Northridge.

Dickson, a 6-foot-4 senior who has helped Royal (5-0) to the top spot in The Times’ regional poll, said he chose Northridge for several reasons.

“It’s close to home and the coaches are great,” said Dickson, who said he wants to be reunited with former teammates John Baxter, Ryan Denihan and Steve Russell, who play at Northridge.

Dickson’s commitment is consistent with the recruiting pattern of second-year Northridge Coach Jeff Campbell, who signed several recruits from the region last year.

BASEBALL

* Ed Campaniello, who played at Agoura High and Cal Lutheran, and Jim Vatcher, from Cal State Northridge, have signed contracts with the Rimini Pirates of the Major League Federation of Italian Baseball.

Campaniello played last season in the independent Texas-Louisiana League.

Vatcher, who played briefly in the major leagues, spent the last two seasons playing professionally in Taiwan.
