Former UCLA forward JaRon Rush is returning to the Southland as a member of the Los Angeles Stars of the new ABA.

Rush, who turned pro last spring after a truncated sophomore season at UCLA, was obtained by the Stars on Wednesday in a trade with the Kansas City Knights. In exchange, the Knights received a conditional pick from the Stars in next year’s draft.

Rush, who averaged 12.1 points in nine games last season, was not selected in the NBA draft.

He was the Knights’ first pick in the ABA draft.

“We’ve wanted JaRon since day one,” Jamaal Wilkes, the Stars’ vice president of operations, said in a prepared statement. “Unfortunately for us, the Knights had the rights to him. We now expect him to play an important part in our season’s game plan.”

Rush will be joined on the Star roster by two other former UCLA players, Ed O’Bannon and Toby Bailey.

The Stars open their 56-game season Dec. 26 against the San Diego WildFire at the Great Western Forum.
