Canyon 75, Lancaster 69--Matt Nelsen scored 27 of his 34 points in the first half and hit eight of nine three-point shots for the Cowboys in a nonleague game at Canyon.

Crescenta Valley 86, San Clemente 83--Jimmy Goffredo scored six of his 27 points in overtime to lead the Falcons (10-0) in pool play of the Crescenta Valley tournament.

Eli Owens of San Clemente (7-1) made two free throws with 43 seconds to play to send the game to overtime.

Goffredo sparked a 6-0 run in overtime.

Chris Taran scored 23 points and James Jenkins added 21 as Crescenta Valley advanced to the championship game today against Marshall at 7:30 p.m.

Taft 66, Banning 47--Steve Smith had 29 points and 10 rebounds and the Toreadors romped at Taft.

Mustafa Asghari had 18 points and five steals for Taft (5-2).

GIRLS

Chatsworth 55, North Hollywood 51--Coach Raquel Alotis of Chatsworth questioned her team’s character in the locker room with the Huskies leading by nine at halftime.

Apparently, Ashley Shelton took the words to heart.

The junior guard scored all of her 22 points after intermission, including eight of Chatsworth’s 10 in overtime of a pool play victory in the Burroughs tournament.

“In the first half, we weren’t moving well,” Shelton said. “We were stagnant and we had no heart. In the second half, we were much more fired up.”

Richelle Sherman, who finished with 32 points and 13 rebounds, scored 18 points in the first half to spark North Hollywood (4-4) to a 23-14 lead.

Britney Hamilton of Chatsworth stole a pass underneath the basket and made a layup to tie it, 51-51, with 29.4 seconds remaining.

Kaipresha Price of North Hollywood slammed the basketball to the floor in disgust, was called for a technical foul and Shelton made both free throws to put Chatsworth (6-2) ahead for good.

Valencia 52, Hoover 34--Rashae Minor had 11 points and six steals to help the Vikings (7-1) pull away in pool play at the Burroughs tournament.

Agoura 50, Glendale 36--Jennifer Lacy had 24 points and 12 rebounds as the Chargers (5-2) won in pool play at the Burroughs tournament.

Lacy made 11 of 19 shots.

Anika Hartounian had 12 points for Glendale (2-6).
