Villa Park’s Iti Considers Transfer to Las Vegas School

Villa Park junior Martin Iti, whose hopes of returning to the basketball court this season were crushed last week when CIF Executive Director Jack Hayes upheld school Principal Fran Roney’s one-year athletic suspension of the 6-foot-11 center, is attempting to transfer to Las Vegas Bishop Gorman, according to Gael Coach Bob Hubbard.

Iti and his legal guardian, Courtney Rosegreen, attended Bishop Gorman’s second-round game in the Holiday Prep Classic in Las Vegas Tuesday night. Rosegreen insisted they were in town to visit Rosegreen’s brother and take in a little basketball, but Hubbard said they have approached him about a possible transfer.

Hubbard said he is researching Iti’s potential athletic eligibility in Nevada.

“I’d love to have him,” Hubbard said. “He’s a good kid and a good player. But I don’t want to do anything to jeopardize our program. The thing that concerns us is that he played as a sophomore [at Servite] but transferred and wasn’t eligible as a junior.”

Iti averaged 12 points and 7.6 rebounds for Servite last season before transferring to Villa Park in April, his fourth transfer since moving to the United States from Australia in June 1998.
