Looks like the Golden League is finally living up to its name.

After failing to win a first-round playoff game the last two years in boys’ basketball, the league has a collective 4-2 record in this year’s Southern Section playoffs.

Quartz Hill (20-7) has logged come-from-behind victories against Hart and Riverside Arlington, and plays tonight at Santa Barbara in the third round of the Division I-A playoffs.

Littlerock (20-7), which tied Quartz Hill for the Golden League championship, defeated Buena Park in the first round of the Division II-AA playoffs and hosts Santa Margarita tonight in the second round.

In the next two days, Buckley will become very familiar with St. Anthony, a small parochial school in Long Beach.

The Buckley boys’ team plays tonight at St. Anthony in the third round of the V-AA playoffs.

The Buckley girls’ team plays St. Anthony on Wednesday in the third round of the V-AA playoffs. Buckley will host the game at Campbell Hall because the stage for the production of ‘The Music Man’ has been extended onto the gymnasium floor.

The boys’ team, which is 21-2 and won the Liberty League, beat Montclair Prep, 70-66, in the second round.

“We’re just trying to get respect for the Liberty League,” said Coach Dan Haasch of Buckley. “Contrary to a lot of local opinions, the Liberty League can play basketball.”
