An unidentified man was struck and killed by a freight train in South-Central Los Angeles on Wednesday.

According to witnesses, the accident occurred about 2:30 p.m. near the intersection of Slauson and Central avenues, when the man crossed either in front of or between the slow-moving train cars, said fire department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

“There were no other injuries, no derailment, but the man, unfortunately, had massive trauma--sadly, beyond our help,” Humphrey said.
