Like the rest of the Highland team, Ryan Torres wants catcher Daniel Champieux to recover as soon as possible from a strained left knee that has kept him sidelined for a week.

But Torres has to appreciate the opportunity Champieux’s injury provided. A senior whom Coach Mike Van Cheri called “Mr. Utility” earlier this season, Torres was six for six in two starts last week.

Third baseman John Santor moved to catcher and Torres played third base. Torres is nine for 13 this season.

“He’s doing a great job,” Van Cheri said. “I’ll find him playing time somehow when Daniel is healthy.”

Champieux will be out at least one more week.
