Marmonte Just a Sack Race

Share

Another Marmonte League team, another sack attack.

Little more than a month after Westlake High blitzed Hart for 11 sacks, Royal buried Newbury Park with 10 sacks Friday night.

The Highlanders forced three turnovers, allowed only 204 yards and created constant chaos in a surprisingly easy 47-7 victory.

Dave Lemos, a 6-foot-1, 220-pound defensive tackle, set a school record with six sacks.

A catcher on the baseball team, Lemos didn’t raise many eyebrows with his performance.

“It’s not a surprise to us,” Royal Coach Gene Uebelhardt said. “We expected him to play well when the season began and he has.”
